[starreview]“Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End” fails to capture the magic of the first film, but is superior to the second. Despite its diversions, its core contains a solid story with a beginning middle and end even if getting through them all takes more time than required. The two shining characters of the third Pirates adventure are Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Jeffery Rush). Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) may be a fan favorite, but he is reduced to little more than comic relief and a living MacGuffin used as a reason to adventure beyond the end of the second movie. Swan’s character has advanced through all three movies and she has grown in ability. Barbossa’s character also gains more depth and fulfills a non traditional father and mentor role for Swan. “Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End” remains a fun summer offering and moviegoer’s money is better spent sailing this somewhat long high seas adventure than trapped in the uncomfortable web of “Spider-Man 3″
I rank “Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End” 3 stars out of 4
